ABOUT THE OWNER

I am a graduate of Texas Lutheran University, where I studied kinesiology and psychology. My certifications include NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist, NASM Certified Corrective Exercise Specialist, NASM Performance Enhancement Specialist, ISSA Certified Personal Trainer, and ISSA Certified Nutrition Coach. For the past 20 years I have worked with clients at every fitness level and phase of life. I specialize in muscle activation therapy, corrective exercise, and sports performance. My roles have included individual/small group training, sports team training, and teaching continuing education coursework for trainers. I am extremely passionate about helping people reconnect with their body and gain strength that will always stay with them.

Ten years ago, I walked into a gym to become a member and find a trainer to help me build strong muscles. The week before, I’d found out that my mother had just been diagnosed with myotonic dystrophy (MD). This genetic disease leads to progressive muscle degeneration. Strength-training was shown to effectively alleviate skeletal muscle impairments that occur with MD. If I did develop this cruel disease, I wanted to have a fighting chance.

Before training with James, I was a Cardio Queen. I mixed in minimal dumbbell movements with aerobics classes and long elliptical machine sessions. I didn’t feel comfortable using the machines or barbells. I’m a perfectionist that hated the idea of doing something incorrectly. So, I erred on the side of doing nothing at all.

Now, I know the right form and how to use the machines, dumbbells, and barbells. And if I don’t know how to do it, I have no anxiety asking a fellow gym member or James because that man is NEVER off the clock. If I were doing my “homework” from one of our weekly sessions and my form was off, he’d come over during another client’s rest time and quickly correct my form.

My favorite thing about training with James is that he’s SO smart, and I love how he geeks out. I enjoy how he lets me ask a lot of questions about my body and physiology. He almost always has the answer, and if not, he researches and has the answer at our next session.

I have learned about the right macros for me, lost fat, gained lean muscle, and added strength. Yet, the most significant accompaniment I’ve experienced working with James is more confidence. More confidence in the gym and in the ability to fight MD.

James has been part of many of my life’s major milestones: Two engagements, different jobs, turning 30, the untimely death of my mother, and now a global pandemic. He has become more than a trainer. He’s been a dating advice guru, a life coach, a confidant, and a friend.
